Toast for dinner say whhhhaaaaa??
Yup, I went there with this cheesey, garlicy, saucy, crunchy toast. I have made this once a week for the last 3 weeks because I Just. Can’t. Get. Enough. Pair it with my fave kale salad, and you have yourself one yummy meal!
The other great thing about this, other than it being insanely delicious, is it is pretty simple to make. Brown some meat, toast some bread, and you are over half way there.
This recipe is fairly versatile, too. I used sourdough as the bread, but you could just as easily use a whole grain loaf of bread, Italian bread, or a baguette! Another change you could make is to the type of meat- I used ground beef, but you could also exchange the beef for a ground turkey or ground chicken. Heck, you could even use lentils instead of the meat. Go crazy, make this recipe your own, do with it what you wish.
And lastly, another awesome thing you can do with this recipe is prep the meat sauce one day, pop it in the freezer, and simply defrost it in a frying pan another day when you are ready to use it! Do you love me yet for bringing you this recipe??
It is clearly one of my faves, so I hope you love it too!!
Thanks for reading!
This cheesy Italian dinner toast is bound to be one of your new favorite dinner recipes- full of flavor and SO easy to make!
- 1 loaf sourdough bread
- 1 lb lean ground beef
- 1 can crushed tomatoes
- 1 tbsp tomato paste
- 4 slices provolone cheese
- 2 cloves garlic
- 1 yellow onion (diced)
- 1 tbsp Italian seasoning
- 1/2 tsp kosher salt
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- Parmesan cheese (for topping)
- Fresh parsley (for garnish)
To prepare the sauce: Heat up olive oil in a large frying pan over medium heat. Add diced onions, 1 clove of garlic (minced), salt and Italian seasoning. Saute until onions are translucent and garlic is golden brown. Add in the ground beef to the same frying pan and cook until brown, stirring frequently. Add in the diced tomatoes and tomato paste and stir everything together. Reduce heat to low and let simmer for 15 minutes.
To prepare the cheesy toast: While meat sauce is simmering, place bread in the oven at 350 degrees to toast, until it is golden brown. Remove from oven and use 1 clove of garlic to rub on the top side of each slice of bread. Place 1/2 slice of provolone on each piece of bread, transfer to a baking sheet and place in the oven for 3 minutes, or until the cheese is melted.
Top each slice of bread with the meat sauce, sprinkle parmesan cheese on top and garnish with chopped parsley. Serve hot.
