I make this sauce ALL the time.
1) because I always have these ingredients in my pantry because they are the ultimate staples. So when I decide on a spur of the moment pasta night, ain’t no problem, I have all the goods! And 2) it just tastes so dang good. I really do prefer this over 9/10 pre-made pasta sauces.
Okay, so yeah we know, the ultimate lazy girl sauce would be sauce from a can.
BUT if you wanna be lazy but still make your own sauce for your pasta, or you don’t have pasta sauce but you have these ingredients, then girl I GOT YOU. And the best news?? It is only 5 ingredients! But no judgement if you go the ultimate lazy girl sauce route from time to time and get good ol Ragu, sometimes ya gotta do what ya gotta do.
Not only does this recipe only have 5 ingredients, it is quite fool proof.
So fool proof that I didn’t even take process pictures because I have faith that you’ll be able to do it!
Start by dicing the onion and garlic. Heat up a frying pan with some olive oil and throw the onion and garlic in there. Cook them for about 4 minutes, reduce the heat to low, and add in your canned tomatoes, tomato paste and salt. Let simmer for 10 minutes and GIRL YOU DONE IT! I mean c’mon, how easy was that???
As for those delectable looking meatballs on top, well, you are just going to have to wait until next week for that recipe! But in the meantime….check out my mushroom meatball recipe to put this sauce to the test!
Thanks for being here!!
The most delicious and easiest homemade pasta sauce
- 1 can Italian diced tomatoes
- 1 yellow onion, diced
- 2 garlic cloves
- 1 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 dash of salt
- 1 tbsp olive oil
In a frying pan, heat up the olive oil over medium heat. Dice onion and garlic and add to the hot oil. Cook for 4 minutes.
Reduce heat to low, add canned tomatoes and tomato paste. Let simmer for 10 minutes. Serve over pasta!
Just note that this recipe makes enough for about 2 people to have on their pasta, so if you are going to double or triple the recipe, only add a can of tomatoes and another tbsp of tomato paste, don’t double the rest of the ingredients.
